Cloud Architect
Passionate about cloud storage and compute. Stephen believes that this technology will present unlimited storage and compute power for both business and home use. Home users will no longer need to purchase expensive hardware and deal with back-ups, upgrades, and maintenance. The cloud will allow the home to simply purchase high-end terminals (e.g., TVs) and use them to connect to cloud resources.
The cloud will empower software development to no longer invest in costly laboratories. Developers will simply use cloud virtual machines and storage to create products in a more efficient manner.
Stephen is a student of cloud storage APIs and is focusing on how to map them to Unix file systems. Cloud storage cannot use locking so that it will easily scale. Locking has essentially been pushed up to the application layer. He is fascinated by the resulting ramifications and how applications can use global storage with cloud storage synchronization techniques.
